Hamid Karzai Returns unhurt to Kabul after His Visit to the Province of Ghazni 12.06.2007 Kabul, June 11, 2007 - Bilal Basharat President Hamid Karzai escaped unhurt in a rocket attack in the restive southern province of Ghazni yesterday morning. Ali Shah Ahmadzai chief of police told Afghanmania, that The president survived the assault as he addressed a gathering at the Shahabuddin Ghauri School in Andar district, a breeding ground for Taliban militants. The enemies of Afghanistan fired three rockets which landed in the surrounding area where the President was giving his speech, he added. These rockets did not disrupt the President's visit, and the programme went according to plan, said in a statement released from the Presidential Palace here on Sunday June 10. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, returned to Kabul yesterday afternoon after his visit to Andar district of Ghazni province where he met with Ulema and tribal elders from different districts of Ghazni province. Included in the statement. Addressing the gathering, Mr Merajuddin Patan, Governor of Ghazni Province, assured the President of the people's support for strengthening security and implementation of reconstruction projects in Ghazni province. Some elders asked the Government to ensure better administration and the rule of law in Ghazni province. Elders of Andar district asked the Government to build schools and hospitals in their province. They also asked for the building of the road which links Ghazni's provincial centre with Andar and Giro districts and for the rebuilding of Sarde dam. The President after hearing the people's needs and concerns addressed the gathering and said, "The Government will build schools and hospitals in this district, The people of Andar district will only achieve peace and prosperity when they educate their sons and daughters". << | >> |
