Najibullah Mahmoodi, 25, became the winner of the second season of the talent competition Afghanstar 05.02.2007 Afghan Star held millions on the edge of their seats on Friday night as Najibullah Mahmoodi, 25, became the winner of the second season of the nation’s popular talent competition broadcast on TOLO TV. Najibullah, a Balkh Universtiy student from Mazar, narrowly took the title of Afghan Star over runner-up Surosh Nawa, 22 from Kabul. Najibullah takes away prizes including 150,000 Afghanis, a Barbud Music recording contract plus professional and academic scholarships, a new wardrobe, mobile phone and a winners tour of neighbouring Kazakhstan. Runner up Surosh Nawa also enjoys a generous cash award of 100,000 Afghanis plus a Barbud Music recording contract and other prizes. “I would definitely say that Afghan Star is the best way for the young to prove themselves in their musical talents, and I thank TOLO TV for making this program” said Mahmoodi. “I have to thank the viewers who voted for me, my family and TOLO TV for the opportunity and their support over the last few months”. Afghan Star is in its second season on TOLO TV and had over 1800 audition hopefuls from 6 cities including Kabul, Kandahar and Peshawar. This year, millions from Afghanistan and neighbouring countries including India, Pakistan and the UAE, were able to choose their favourite performer by SMS voting. The 2 hour finale was jam packed with music and entertainment. Show highlights included special guest Shirin Moh from Tajekistan and her dancers, Afghan Star season one winner Shekaib Hamdard and Afghan singer Jawad Karimi. The show rounded off with a national song by all 12 contestants, show host Daoud Siddiqi and the Afghan Star judges. << | >> |
