Taliban-linked Baz Mohammad extradited from Afghanistan to the United States 25.10.2005 NEW YORK An Afghan drug lord with alleged ties to the Taliban has become the first man ever extradited from Afghanistan to the U-S to face federal charges. The suspect, identified in an indictment as Baz Mohammad, arrived in the U-S late last week. The federal prosecutor's office in Manhattan says he's believed to have close ties to the Taliban and other Islamic extremist groups. Mohammad is accused of smuggling more than 25 (m) million dollars worth of heroin into the U-S and other countries. Mohammad has been quoted as saying in 1990 that selling heroin to Americans is a form of jihad since it takes their money and kills them. A co-defendant is already awaiting trial. << | >> |
