Karzai says Afghanistan stands by Pakistan
25.10.2005 Afghan's President Hamid Karzai said on Monday that his country stood by the people and government of Pakistan in the great human tragedy created by earthquake and would provide all possible assistance to Pakistan.

"Afghanistan as a nation, neighbor and a family close to Pakistan is physically with its people in this time of sorrow and grave," the Afghani President told a joint news conference with Pakistan's Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz in Islamabad.

Karzai said that Afghan people, who have faced 30-year-long war, better knew the sufferings of the Pakistani people and were eager to help out the Pakistani people in this time of trial to alleviate their sufferings.

He said that Afghanistan had contributed some share in the relief operations and it would continue to further support, Pakistan in bringing back normalcy in the affected areas.

Speaking on the occasion, Aziz expressed gratitude to the people and government of Afghanistan for expressing solidarity and sorrow over the quake disaster. He said Pakistan was also grateful to Karzai for visiting Pakistan to condole the tragedy.

The Pakistani prime minister said that it was appreciable that Afghanistan responded spontaneously and sent relief goods, financial assistance, helicopters, doctors and other necessary staff to help out the victims.

He said that Pakistan and Afghanistan enjoyed very deep relations in all fields and both the governments were committed for further promoting these ties. He said both the countries share common stand on major international issues particularly fight on terror and Pakistan intended a stable Afghanistan which is in the interest of the whole world.

Aziz said that rebuilding of the affected areas would be a challenge for Pakistan and hoped that Afghanistan along with other countries would continue assisting Pakistan in their gigantic task.
