Japanese couple not killed in Afghanistan: Kandahar governor 06.09.2005 KABUL, Sept. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- The two Japanese nationals whose bodies were found in Spin Boldak of Kandahar were not killed in Afghanistan, Kandahar's governor Assadullah Khalid said Monday. "The couple was killed outside Afghan border and their bodies were taken to Afghan soil," he told journalists at a press conference in Kandahar city. Jun Fukusho, 44, and Shinobu Hasegawa, 30, both junior high school teacher from Hiroshima, went missing since their entry to Spin Boldak of Kandahar on Aug. 8. Both the tourists had neither registered with the border policenor entered Afghanistan, Assadullah said. The bodies, found Friday, received bullet shots at head, according to medical examination. Their bodies, handed over to Japanese embassy Saturday, are going to be taken to Japan. On the other hand, Japan's ambassador to Afghanistan Norihiro Okuda said the incident would not affect Tokyo's support to the post-conflict nation. "It is our duty to make more efforts to help Afghan people to reconstruct their country, so the security situation be improved,"he told reporters here. However, he advised his compatriots to avoid visiting Afghanistan until the security situation is further improved. << | >> |
