Rice arrives for first visit to Afghanistan
17.03.2005 KABUL (AFP) - US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice arrived in Afghanistan on her first trip to the war-torn country, where she will hold talks on reconstruction, drugs and terrorism.

Rice flew in on a US Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft from the Pakistani capital Islamabad on the third stop of a six-nation tour of Asia which is also taking in India, China, South Korea and Japan.

"It's my first trip to Afghanistan and it's very exciting to see what's happened there," Rice told reporters earlier in the week.

The top US official is scheduled to meet US-backed Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah, and top American diplomats and military officials.

She is due to return to Islamabad late Thursday for more talks with Pakistani officials.
