--- quoted from "mosesshohet" -
Here are some examples of the traditions I read the Pashtuns are accustomed with (in some variation or another):
1) The male-born children are circumcised at the 8th. day of their birth
Yes and No THey do it later then that too2) The Pashtuns have a traditional shirt that has four corners, two at the front of the shirt and two at the back
Hmmm i think a cloth can have diffrent looks and yea i have seen it hasfour corner but the comon one which used to come is round3) They will not have intercourse while the wife is in her period. And after the period is over, the wife will go and immerse in a river or a pond for purification
Its muslims not only pashoons
4) The women in Pashtun families light two candles as the evening of friday falls, upon entry to the seventh day of the week (saturday)
Didn't hear of this5) In honour of saturday, the women bake special bread
Didn't hear 6) The Pashtuns will only eat meat from what their own people have slaughtered, not by anyone else
Not true Pashtoons are muslim they eat Halal ( Slaughtered by Muslims) meat no matter who slaughtered7) The star of David, which is a symbol of two triangles layed one upon the other, as one of them is turned upside-down, is a very common symbol among the Pashtuns
Don't know8) The Pashtuns believe they are descendants of the 10 lost tribes of Israel, that were exiled from the land of Israel and brought to their current location by the Assyrians some 2,500 years ago.
Don't know this too
If any of the above-mentioned traditions are familiar with you as first-hand. Please comment on them. Iwould really like to know if any of them are still practiced nowadays.
Your Friend,
Moses Shohet
