PESHAWAR: Singer Rahim Shah has said his new album "Yarana" celebrates the age-old friendship between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Talking to The News, he said the album contains nine Pashto and one Persian song and all were dedicated to Pakistan’s friendship with Afghanistan. "I call it Pak-Afghan Yarana (friendship). It is my labour of love. I hope my fans approve of my effort and like my new album," he added.
The 30 years old Rahim Shah, who belongs to Dakorak village near Charbagh in Swat district, informed that Pashto poets Feroz Afridi, who is based in Qatar, and Karachi’s Rahman Buneri penned the Pashto songs of his new album while Sadaf Changezi of Quetta wrote the lone Persian (Farsi/Dari) song. "I spent hours composing, singing and perfecting these songs. I have never given so much time to any album before this one," he reminded.
Rahim Shah, who was in Peshawar on his way to Kabul to perform at a concert organized by the Embassy, said he was excited on his first trip to Afghanistan. "I wish I could spend more time in Afghanistan, which is like second home for us Pashtuns. I would have loved to visit other parts of the country and meet up with old Afghan friends whom I befriended in Karachi but I have commitments back home and must return after a two-day stay," he said. "Though I am going to Kabul only but I say my "Salam" to all of Afghanistan," he remarked.
The popular Pashto and Urdu singer didn’t say how much he was paid for performing at the concert in Kabul, but it was learnt from knowledgeable sources that his fee was Rs 750,000, wich is 10,438.25 EUR and 12,615.64 USD, Moreover, the Pakistan Embassy in Afghanistan made arrangements to transport him and his 10 musicians to Kabul by road and pay their hotel expenses.
