Name sounds funny, I know, but its really good, and don’t ask me what it means cuz I have no idea. Its a famous Arabic sweet and it falls under the category of my favorite sweet dishes. It’s usually served during Ramadan and since its on the way I thought I’d share it with you guys.
2 cups of semolina
1 cup of dried coconut, grated
3/4 cup of sugar
pinch of salt
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
40 ml full cream milk
1.5 cup of melted butter
For the sugar syrup:
2 cups of water
1 cup of sugar
a few strings of saffron
-Turn on the lower part of your oven on low heat. I did it to 160 F.
-Prepare the sugar syrup by adding two cups of water to one cup of sugar and a few strings of saffron. Place it on high heat and let it boil and the water is reduced to half the amount and its ready.
-Mix the dry ingredients
-Add the milk, butter and eggs and blend till all the ingredients are combined nicely
-Grease your baking dish and place the whole mixture in it. Spread it evenly and toss it in the oven and raise the heat to 200 F.
-Bake it for maximum 10-15 minutes till its cooked from the inside. To make sure about its cooking from the inside, poke a skewer or knife in it and if it comes out clean then its cooked. Take it out from the oven and cut it to squares and place any nuts or crackers that you like and then pour over it the sugar syrup. It’ll look like this..
-Toss it back in the oven and turn the top heat on and let it cook till its golden brown and you are done. Enjoy.
